upper poundPENKFORD BRIDGE,is approx 200metres and accomodates 20 pegs, this strictly a pleasure angling water. It is well stock with common and mirror carp,Koi carp, Brownies,Tench,Perch,Roach and Rudd,catches 20lb plus of roach are common place on this water to maggot or casters on the drop.

Article in angling times February 8th 2005 on bread fishing best 100 venues penkford bridge section was listed as number 4.

"They may not be the best -known towpaths but two sections are a cut above the rest .Penkford Bridge ,at Newton-le-Willows, a 21 peg length on the natural part of the waterway, is a real gem fishing to bread punch ,caster and pinkie .It produces big roach nets although catches are difficult to estimate because keepnets are not allowed .
